A driver at Comfort Energy Group must be able to do a lot more than drive a tanker truck. “Your administration must be in order, and as an ambassador of the company, you must know how to deal with customers and your heating oil deliveries must be carried out professionally and efficiently. And the latter is sometimes underestimated. Rolling out a 60-metre hose filled with heating oil is quite different from a garden hose. That physical aspect combined with working outdoors, autonomy, and contact with customers also make the job of driver exciting. And your gym membership is no longer necessary!” laughs Ivan.
Adjustments along the way
Ivan also ensures that the drivers use their full potential and makes adjustments along the way where necessary. “I’m simply trying to keep the new drivers from making the same mistakes I once made myself. But amicably, without pointing fingers. In the end, I’m just a colleague with more experience. By learning from each other, your performance improves and you learn to appreciate your colleagues’ work. The best compliment I received recently was when a rookie driver got his permanent contract with Comfort Energy Group fairly quickly and then called me to thank me for the good training… That’s why I do it.”
Safely on the road
In addition, Comfort Energy Group’s truck coaches and garage ensure that every driver at Comfort Energy Group has the best equipment. “Each driver is assigned their own truck. Before it’s handed over, I check the truck using a checklist with some 200 items. If there are certain defects, they will be fixed in the workshop first. That way, as a company, we can be sure that our drivers have top-notch equipment and that they are safe on the road.”
